토론토는 COVID-19 대유행으로 연말까지 주요 야외 행사를 모두 취소하고 있다.

수요일에 시는 12월 31일까지 모든 행사가 취소되고 대유행의 영향을 받은 문화 축제를 지원하기 위해 565,000 달러가 지급될 것이라고 발표했다.

이벤트는 군중을 끌어 모으기 때문에 위험이 높은 것으로 간주되었다.

"이번 발표는 공중 보건 자문에 근거한 것이며 시가 관리하는 야외 현장이나 도로, 공원, 시민광장 등 다른 공공 장소에서 열리는 축제와 기타 대규모 친목모임을 포함하고 있다"고 발표문은 덧붙였다.

그러나, 이 발표에는 야외 스포츠 시설 허가 및 활동이 포함되지 않으며, 온타리오 주 재개설 기본 계획 3단계에서 허가된 기타 시설과 현행 수집 제한 규정을 준수한다.

이번 결정은 시가 7월 13일 발표한 9월 30일까지의 모든 이러한 행사들이 취소된 데 따른 것이다.

그 결정은 토론토의 건강의 의무관, 시의 비상 운영 센터, 토론토 경찰, 그리고 주요 행사 주최자들과의 협의였다.

일부 시와 시에서 허가한 야외 주요 행사들은 이미 올해 행사 취소를 발표한 반면, 오리지널 산타클로스 퍼레이드와 같은 다른 행사들은 가까운 미래에 대체 계획을 발표할 것이다.

뉴욕시의 카발케이드 오브 라이트(Cavalcade of Lights)와 네이선 필립스 광장에서 열린 새해 전야제 행사도 취소됐다.
